Jethmalani concerned over political interference in judiciary

Jammu, Mar 11 (UNI) Former Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani expressed concern over growing political interference in the legal system and said judiciary was an independent body which should be free from all kinds of interventions.

Addressing a seminar on 'Whither Criminal Justice System?' held at High Court Complex here on the eve of conclusion of diamond jubilee celebrations yesterday, Mr Jethmalani said the criminal justice system was not at fault and added the system needs to be improved for ''restorative and compensative justice''.

He rubbished the idea that the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has become outdated and categorically said there was no need to tinker with existing laws.

Mr Jethmalani said there was a need to increase the number of trial courts for speedy and quality justice to the needy.
