Gang of cell-phone burglars busted, three held

Varanasi, Mar 11 (UNI) The Special Operation Group (SOG) of district police claimed to have busted a gang of cell-phone burglars with the arrest of three youths along with 26 brand new mobile phones here today.

Senior Police Superintendent Sujit Pandey told newspersons that Irfan, Mohd Rizwan and Mohd Moinuddin were arrested from the Chowk area today.

As many as 26 brand new cell-phones were seized from their possession.

On interrogation, the trio revealed stealing new mobile phones by breaking open locks of a mobile phone shop in the Raza Darwaza area of the city last month, the SSP added.

Varsity notice to professor on 'fund scam'

Visakhapatnam, Mar 11 (UNI) The Andhra University (AU) Executive Council today decided to issue a notice to Population Research Centre Former Director M Vivekananda Murthy in connection with misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 98 lakh. According to an AU press release here, the Executive Council meeting held under the Chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Venugopal Reddy decided to serve a notice to Prof Murthy for an explanation. Two septuagenarians found dead

Kannur, Mar 11 (UNI) Two elderly women were found dead this morning at Pullokkara Mukkilpeedika near Chokli in the district. Police said bodies of Amina (72) and her sister Nabeesu(70), with stab injuries, were found by their neighbour. The motive behind the crime was yet to be ascertained, police added. UNI.....

Nine lorries seized for illegally transporting hay

Madikeri, Karnataka, Mar 11 (UNI) Nine lorries, illegally transporting hay to neighbouring Kerala, were seized at Virajpet in the bordering Kodagu district of Karnataka. Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav, who recently visited the Kodagu-Kerala border, found the regular transport of hay without any permission, even though a new law restricted its inter-state transport. He immediately instructed the taluk police officials to stop the movement. However, the sudden enforcement has hit the farmers hard as they were regularly selling hay to.....
