DMK to stage slogan shouting demonstration tomorrow

Chennai, Mar 11 (UNI) The ruling DMK will stage a "slogan shouting" demonstration here tomorrow condemning the Sri Lankan navy force for their continious attack against the Indian fishermen.

A party release today said the demonstration would be held under the leadership of State Fisheries Minister K P P Samy in the presence of State Electricity Minister Arcot Veerasamy.

The demonstrators would come in a procession from Munro statue to State Guest House, where they would stage the demonstration.

After the demonstration, a high-level delegation would submit a memorandum at the office of the Deputy High Commissioner, Sri Lanka, in the city to register their protest against the atrocities of the Singhalese naval force. The delegation would also urge the Sri Lankan authorities to put an end to atrocities against the fishermen, the release added.

Centre has hiked allocation for TUF: Elangovan

Kancheepuram, Mar 11 (UNI) The Centre had allocated Rs 911 crore for the Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF) for 2007-08, Union Minister of State for Textiles E V K S Elangovan today said. Speaking to medipersons after inaugurating a modern silk testing centre here, Mr Elangovan said this representated a substantial increase over last year's allocation of Rs 541 crore.
