Dhaka-Kolkata rail link to start on April 14

Kolkata, Mar 11 (UNI) Come April 14, the Bengali New Years' day, the Bengalis will have a reason to rejoice as Kolkata-Dhaka rail link is expected to be restored, marking a new phase of co-operation between India and Bangladesh.

Official sources here today said the railway link would open another crucial phase of cross-border linkages with India's neighbours.

In the new mileau of co-operation between the interim government in Bangladesh and India, the train would be operated by India and Bangladesh for six months each.

Expected to be greeted with equal amount of nostalgia and enthusiasm by people on both the sides of the border, who share similar culture, habits and language in the pre and even in the post-partition regime, the train service would supplement the existing Kolkata-Dhaka bus service that has been on for a few years now.

Official sources said the Bangladesh army chief has been invited to India and should be visiting India soon.

Butcher shops in Kashmir closed, other essentials cost more

Srinagar, Mar 11 (UNI) Butchers have closed down their shops as the prices of majority of essential commodities in the Kashmir valley are still higher than the government approved rates despite reopening of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. DSIIDC to build 4,348 worker's homes

New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) The Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) will build 4,348 more low-cost homes for workers, its Managing Director Manoj Parida said. The corporation has earmarked an area of 23.55 acres of residential pocket at Bawana Industrial Complex where 3,164 dwelling units have already been constructed as part of the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme. Mr Parida said the scheme is on self-financing basis and has been opened for low-income group staff of public sector undertakings.....
