'Cyanide' to be screened at MAMI

Mumbai, Mar 11 (UNI) 'Cyanide', a film about the assassins of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, will be screened at the ongoing 9th Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI) international film festival here.

Another important film to be screened during the festival is renowned director Girish Kasarvalli's 'In the Shadow of the Dog'.

'Cyanide' is an attempt at authentically capturing the human drama of the last 20 days in the lives of LTTE assassins, who escaped to Bangalore after the assassination of India's former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on May 21, 1991.

The LTTE militants Shivarasan and Shubha, along with their gang gate crash and seek asylum in Ranganathan's house. Ranganathan is caught in the turmoil of repeatedly searching for new hide-outs for the 12 wounded LTTE men. As the police dragnet closes, the gang consumes cyanide.

Director AMR Ramesh is a gold medallist from the Film and TV Institute, Chennai. He has produced the acclaimed serial 'Tholaindu Ponavargal' as well as 'Clock House' and 'Deadline' made for the prestigious ABCL banner.

The other film 'In the Shadow of the Dog' speaks about the turmoil of a family due to the 'rebirth' of one of the family members. Achchannaiah and his wife live with their widowed daughter-in-law Venkatalaxmi and grand-daughter Rajlaxmi in a traditional society. Achchannaiah sets out to discover the truth when news reaches him that in a distant town, his son who died eighteen years ago is reborn. He brings the boy home setting in motion a chain of events that alter the lives of those around him.

About the significance of the dog and his title, director Girish Kasarvalli says, ''In the Mahabharata, the dog follows Yudhisthira till the end in the 'Swargarohana Parva' (the path of heaven). The film's title refers to the dog symbolically representing an individual's good and bad deeds.'' UNI LS GB SY BD1328
