City police grill LET operative

Bangalore, Mar 11 (UNI) The City Crime Branch (CCB) police, who have secured the custody of Tariq Dar to ascertain his involvement in the December 2005 attack on the Indian Institute of Science here, today grilled the alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba operative.

Police sources said Dar, who was brought to the city from Tihar jail yesterday, was presented before a magistrate and remanded to six days police custody.

Dar, a resident of Srinagar, was also the prime accused in the Sarojini Nagar blasts in New Delhi and had alleged links with Imran Bilal Ahmed Kota, another suspected terrorist arrested by the city police with arms and ammunition enroute to the city in a bus from Hospet recently.

The city police brought Dar here for questioning after Imran, during a narco analysis test, named him in the IISc attack, in which an IIT Delhi Professor was gunned down.

SAIL, RINL chalk out over Rs 48k cr modernisation plans

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) Two major public sector steel-making companies, the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), have initiated ambitious modernisation and expansion plans worth more than Rs 48,000 crore. Accordng to official sources, SAIL's plans envisage an increase in its annual hot metal production to 23.8 million tonnes (MT) per annum by the year 2010 at a current tentative cost of around Rs 40,000 crore. Zaheera Sheikh to be released this week

Mumbai, Mar 12 (UNI) Zaheera Sheikh, the prime witness-turned- accused in the Best Bakery case will be released from Nashik Jail this week. Her counsel Umesh Deshpande confirmed the development to UNI here today but did not divulge the date for security reasons. Mr Deshpande said, ''Zaheera has completed one-year imprisonment on March 9 and the Supreme Court has also waived the fine of Rs 50,000 considering peculiar circumstances of the case. RIL, ONGC, OIL, others sign NELP VI contracts

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) The government today signed contracts for the 52 oil and gas blocks awarded under sixth round of NELP with major oil companies including Reliance Industries, ONGC, Oil India, Cairn and Essar. Over 165 bids were recieved for the 52 blocks making it the largest ever auction of energy assets. A total of thirty six foreign firms participated in the process.
