BJP's Harbansh Kapoor all set to become Uttarakhand Speaker

Dehradun, Mar 11 (UNI) With only his nomination filed for the post of the Speaker for newly elected second Uttarakhand Assembly, Bharatiya Janata Party's seniormost legislator Harbansh Kapoor, he is all set to become the Speaker.

Mr Kapoor filed his nominations in six sets at 1222 hrs today for the election slated to be held tomorrow. His name was proposed by six MLAs that included BJP MLAs Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Prakash Pant, Trivendra Rawat, Bishan Singh Chufal and two independent MLAs Gagan Singh Rajwar and Yashpal Benam. Chief Minister Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri was also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile Congress has declared to cooperate in the conduct of Speaker's election. Chief Minister B C Khanduri has urged Congress Chief Harish Rawat to extend his party's cooperation for the Speaker's election.

The Congress Legislative Party welcomed Mr Khanduri's proposal asking him to maintain this democratic tradition in future also, Mr Rawat said.

BJP had emerged as the largest party in Assembly election winning 34 seats out of total 69 for which election was held: BJP was one MLA sheet to form the government. A managing support from three independent MLAs and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal three MLAs, the BJP is all set to form the government. Mr Kapoor was acting as Protem Speaker.

3 HM militants, a jawan among 6 killed, 4 LeT ultras arrested in J

Srinagar, Mar 11 (UNI) Three Hizbul Mujahiden (HM) militants and a security force jawan were among six killed while security forces arrested four ultras of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) and recovered war like stores in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight. A police spokesman said SOG Awantipora received a tip off that some militants were hiding in a house at Naibugh, Tral, about 40 km from here in south Kashmir district of Pulwama. He said immediately SOG and RR launched a joint.....

More rain and snow in HP

Shimla, Mar 11 (UNI) Temperatures continue to drop in Himachal Pradesh after receiving more snow and rain in the state during the last 24 hour, met office said today. The tribal districts of Kullu, Chamba, Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti received mild snowfall, while light rains lashed the lower areas of these districts, reviving coldwave conditions in the entire state, it said. The met office said mild snowfall was reported at several high altitude areas of the tribal districts with Rohtang Pass, situated.....

2 killed in Srinagar blast

Srinagar, Mar 11 (UNI) Two persons were killed when some Explosive substance exploded in a shop at fruit Mandi here early this morning. Police said two persons Mohammad Asif and Feroz Ahmad were killed when an explosion occurred in the fruit Mandi Parimpora. Police have registered a case and started investigation. UNI.....
