Bains appointed media advisor to Punjab CM

Chandigarh, Mar 11 (UNI) Mr Harcharn Singh Bains was today appointed the Media Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in the rank of Minister of State.

According to an official spokesperson here today, Mr Bains would be given emoluments, allowances and other facilities enjoyed by his predecessor.

Mr Bains, a lecturer in the Journalism department at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) had served as media advisor to Mr Badal from 1997 to 2002. He also remained press secretary to Mr Surjit Singh Barnala when he was chief minister in 1985.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has appointed senior IAS officer, D S Guru as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. He takes over from Suresh Kumar, whose new appointment has not yet been notified.

Mr Guru was serving as Principal Secretary, Health.

Three members of family die as car falls into canal

Ludhiana, Mar 11 (UNI) Three members of a family, including two women were killed when their car fell into the Nangal canal near Gurthali village in this district of Punjab police today stated. The accident took place when the driver of the vehicle lost control and it fell into the canal last night. Army divers had to been summoned to fish out the dead. The deceased were identified as Narinder Kaur, Harjinder Kaur and Harcharan Singh. They were returning from Anandpur.....

3 HM militants, a jawan among 6 killed, 4 LeT ultras arrested in J

Srinagar, Mar 11 (UNI) Three Hizbul Mujahiden (HM) militants and a security force jawan were among six killed while security forces arrested four ultras of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) and recovered war like stores in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight. A police spokesman said SOG Awantipora received a tip off that some militants were hiding in a house at Naibugh, Tral, about 40 km from here in south Kashmir district of Pulwama. He said immediately SOG and RR launched a joint.....

More rain and snow in HP

Shimla, Mar 11 (UNI) Temperatures continue to drop in Himachal Pradesh after receiving more snow and rain in the state during the last 24 hour, met office said today. The tribal districts of Kullu, Chamba, Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti received mild snowfall, while light rains lashed the lower areas of these districts, reviving coldwave conditions in the entire state, it said. The met office said mild snowfall was reported at several high altitude areas of the tribal districts with Rohtang Pass, situated.....
