Srinagar, Mar 11 (UNI) All the far flung and remote villages in Jammu and Kashmir will be connected by road by 2009 at the cost of Rs Rs 5400 crores under Prime Minister Grameen Sarak Yogna (PMGSY), minister for works Gulchain Singh Charak said.
However, he did not say anything about the city roads which are totally damaged and light rainfall made turn them pounds, making the movement almost impossible.
He claimed that majority infrastructure damaged during the 17-year-long militancy has been reconstructed.
Mr Charak said every day three new roads are being constructed in the state and the process will continue till March 31 this year.
However, he expressed concern over the projects started without any formal approval and funds and left in mid-way wasting the state exchequre.
Mr Charak said majority bridges, school buildings, hospitals and other infrastructure damaged during the militancy have been reconstructed because of liberal central assistance.
The minister said by 2009 all the far off and remote villages, having the population of 250 persons, would be connected by road with the main towns.
This will cost Rs 5400 crores and is funded under Prime Minister Grameen Sarak Yogna (PMGSY).
He said there are some villages in the state where people have not seen a vehicle and they have to trek ten to 50 km to reach a nearest town for purchasing essential commodities, he added.
