5 suspected LTTE sympathisers held

Coimbatore, Mar 11 (UNI) The 'Q' Branch Police today arrested five suspected LTTE sympathisers in connection with the iron balls seizure case and took them to Chennai for further interrogation.

According to police sources, in the wake of the recent seizures of iron balls and chemicals meant for smuggling to the banned LTTE in Sri Lanka, the police have been keeping a close vigil on Lankan refugee camps and foundries here.

The police arrested a person working in a foundary at Mudhalipalayam near Tirupur. Based on his confession, four more persons who were also working in foundries, were arrested from Sowripalayam in the city.

The police howevers refused to divulge further details on the arrests.

No plans to cut fuel prices: Deora

All 3 anti-Sanjay Dutt's pleas deferred till tomorrow

Mumbai, Mar 12 (UNI) Hearing on all three pleas by as many groups of convicts on the fate of Bollywood actor-convict Sanjay Dutt in the 1993 serial bomb blasts in the country's financial and entertainment capital was adjourned till tomorrow by the TADA court here today. Dutt was among the 100 people who have been convicted in the case of the multiple blasts which had claimed 257 lives and left over 700 people wounded in this metropolis this day 14 years.....

SAIL, RINL chalk out over Rs 48k cr modernisation plans

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) Two major public sector steel-making companies, the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), have initiated ambitious modernisation and expansion plans worth more than Rs 48,000 crore. Accordng to official sources, SAIL's plans envisage an increase in its annual hot metal production to 23.8 million tonnes (MT) per annum by the year 2010 at a current tentative cost of around Rs 40,000 crore.
