Van overturns killing five fishermen in Bengal

Kolkata, Mar 10 (UNI) At least five people were killed on the spot and 36 others injured when a Kolkata bound van overturned at Namkhana in South 24 Parganas district this morning.

Official sources here said the overloaded four-wheeler carrying fishermen from nearby areas to Kolkata met with an accident when the driver tryied to overtake another vehicle and subsequenly overturned on the highway killing five men on the spot.

The local people took the injured to a nearby hospital where the condition of at least six men was stated to be critical.

Efforts were on to bring the seriously injured to Kolkata for better treatment.

Jindal steel achieves three million tonnes capacity

Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, Mar 10 (UNI) Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) has achieved an annual iron-making capacity of three million tonnes with the commissioning of a new blast furnace at its plant here. JSPL Executive Vice-President and Managing Director Naveen Jindal said JSPL was considering further expansion to take the Raigarh plant's iron-making capacity to six million tonnes (MT) per annum. He said the company had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government whereby it plans to invest.....

PNB's JV partner launches 20th branch in Nepal

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) Nepal's Everest Bank Ltd (EBL), in which public sector Punjab National Bank (PNB) has an equity stake, today opened its 20th branch in Kathmandu. Mr S C Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, PNB, inaugurated the branch, which makes EBL the largest network among the private sector commercial banks in Nepal. Decision on EPF interest rate put off fourth time

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) A decision on the crucial issue of hike in the rate of interest on the EPF was put off for the fourth time today after Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes told the Employees Provident Fund Orgnisation (EPFO) that he is pursuing the matter with Finance Minister P Chidambaram. ''I am still pursuing the matter with Mr Chidambaram and am hopeful that some assistance and solution will come forth from him,'' Mr Fernandes told the members of the.....
