Testing centre for Kancheepuram silk sarees set up

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Mar 10 (UNI) A modern centre to test the purity of Kancheepuram silk sarees and borders has ben set up on behalf of the Kancheepuram Central silk and supervision offices at a cost of Rs one crore.

Official sources said since some traders were allegedly deceiving the customers by selling duplicate Kancheepuram silk sarees, the Tamil Nadu government had earlier set up a textile centre for examination centre to find out the difference between the original and the duplicate. But the people could not benefit much from it.

The manufacturers would be aware of the standard of sarees and borders distributed to their weavers from the centre.

The new facility has been set up to further ascertain the quality of the sarees made by the weavers.

The Centre would issue a clearance certificate only after verifying that the sarees are genuine silk. A nominal fee would be charged from the customers, if any discrepancy is detected.
