Tebtans appeal to the President for freedom

Bangalore, Mar 10 (UNI) Tibetans settled in Karnataka today appealed to President A P J Abdul Kalam to use his good office to free Tibet from China.

In a memorandum addressed to Mr Kalam and submitted through the Governor T N Chaturvedi on 48th Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day and copy of which released to the press here, it was stated that "with great hope and trust, we believe that your Excellency would, in your great capacity, do your utmost in the early realisation of justice and victory to the truth of Tibetan struggle and make Tibet free from China." The Tibetan people were deprived of all basic rights including religious, cultural, education and traditional rights etc that causes continuous exodus of over 3000 Tibetans each year from Tibet into Nepal and India, vindicating the deplorable conditions for Tibetans in Tibet.

India and Tibet have a unique relationship. "Our two nations were not only neighbours but we also have close religious, cultural, trade and historical ties. India is not only the source of our spiritual heritage but it has also shown us the non-violent path.

India has not only historical ties but it has ties and relevance even today of material interest, of political interest and above all, the interest of humanity.
