Prohibitory orders clamped in Rajnandgaon

Rajnandgaon, Mar 10 (UNI) Prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC have been imposed in entire Rajnandgaon district where Lok Sabha byelection is in progress.

Under the prohibitory orders effective till April 2, political parties and candidates will have to seek prior permission for holding election meetings, District Collector R S Vishwakarma said.

Ban on public meetings and carrying arms have been banned, he said.

Polling in Rajnandgaon is scheduled on March 29 and today is the last date for filing nominations.

The seat fell vacant after sitting BJP MP Pradeep Gandhi, a close associate of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, was disqualified after being caught in the cash-for-query scam.

Former Madhya Pradesh Minister Leelaram Bhojwani is the BJP nominee, while Mr Devbrat Singh of Khairagarh is the Congress candidate.

Youth held for murdering police constable

Bilaspur, Mar 10 (UNI) Police has arrested a youth for murdering Head Constable Deepak Khandekar, whose half-burnt body was recovered at Bodsara village near Mungeli in this district on February 11. Police said the rifle and ammunition were also recovered from the house of Ganesh(30), who murdered the Chhattisgarh Special Armed Force official posted at Mana for attempting to forcibly marry his sister. 29 aspirants for Rajnandgaon by-poll

Rajnandgaon, Mar 10 (UNI) As many as 29 candidates have filed their nomination papers to contest for the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat in the by-election scheduled for March 29. State's ruling BJP has fielded Mr Leelaram Bhojwani, a former minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh, while opposition Congress has nominated Mr Devarat Singh to contest for the seat.
