No microphones for Ram Dev's yoga camp in Kolkata: HC

Kolkata, Mar 10 (UNI) The Calcutta High Court has rejected a petition seeking permission to use microphones during a six-day yoga camp of Baba Ram Dev starting March 21.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice S S Nijjar and Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya rejected the petition yesterday by the Biswa Jagriti Mission, challenging a notice issued by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board.

In the notice issued on March 6, the Board had imposed restrictions on using microphones from March 13, in view of the Higher Secondary examinations in the state.

The petitioner's counsel argued that the programme was fixed long ago and they had got permission from the police and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation for using the microphones, as thosands of participants are expected to take part in the camp.

The Biswa Jagriti Mission is hosting the yoga camp from at Rabindra Sarobar stadium.

Koda vows to protect rights of Adivasis

Jamshedpur, Feb 25 (UNI) Jhakrhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda today reiterated the UPA government's commitment to protecting the rights and traditional system of the adivasis. Addressing the adivasi religious programme ''Baha Parab'', organised by the Adivasi Joher Than committee, here, he said the government had allotted adequate fund for the protection of the traditional adivasi system, particularly in Santhal Parganas region. Jailer shot dead in Ara

Ara, Mar 10 (UNI) Two people, including a jailer, were shot dead, following a land dispute at Semardah village in Bhojpur district today. Police said that some miscreants barged into the jailer's residence and fired indiscriminately, killing him on the spot. Another person was also killed in the incident. Two killed, 5 injured in road accident

Rourkela, Feb 25 (UNI) Two persons were killed and five others injured when a tempo in which they were travelling hit a dumper at Itma, about 70 km from here, today under Badagaon police station. Police said while one Laxman Themria (38) died on the spot, another passenger identified as Maharagi Teli (40) died on way to Sundergarh headquarters hospital. Five others received minor injuries. All the seven people were going to Sundergarh to sell vegetables when the mishap occurred,.....
