Five killed, 12 injured as truck ploughs into marriage party

Dehra Dun, Mar 10 (UNI) Five people, including two women, were killed and 12 others injured when a truck ploughed into a marriage party last night.

According to the police sources, people were dancing in front of the house of one Shivram on the eve of his marriage when a speedy truck rammed into them at around 2200 hrs, killing the five, including two women and the groom's father, and injuring others.

The injured have been admitted to the Government Hospital, the sources added.

The truck driver fled from the site and police have launched a hunt for him.

Dehradun, Mar 10 (UNI) Garhwal Mandal Commissioner Subhash Kumar was today appointed Principal Secretary to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri. This was the first reshuffle of officials after the change of government. According to Additional Secretary (Personnel) S S Rawat, Mr Kumar would also continue with his present portfolio as Commissioner of Garhwal. Mr Rawat added that the present Secretary to the Chief Minister, D K Kotia has been relieved from his duty. However, Mr Kotia's other responsibilities are intact......

Chandigarh, Mar 10 (UNI) Haryana Tourism Minister Kiran Choudhry met Pakistan Tourism Minister Nilofar Bakhtiar at Berlin and called for strenthening bilateral cultural ties, official sources said here today. Srinagar, Mar 10 (UNI) One person was killed and 36 others were wounded, four of them critically, in two road accidents in the Kashmir valley today, official sources said. Official sources said one person was killed and six others were injured when a vehicle in which they were travelling from Jammu to Srinagar met with an accident at Shaitan Nullah on the highway.
