Bus owners block national highway to protest toll tax hike

Howrah, Mar 10 (UNI) Bus owners today blocked the NH-6 in protest against hike in toll tax.

The NHAI has demanded full payment of the toll charges from the bus owners, which they were not paying previously.

This resulted in clashes between them and the NH officials, sources added.

The local administration tried to bring the situation under control.

The District Magistrate, after discussion with the bus owners, agreed to hold a meeting on March 12 to come to an agreement in this regard.

The local buses were previously not paying any toll tax and the super fast and express buses were paying a meagre amount.

The bus owners had claimed that any hike in toll tax would result in a simultaneous hike in the bus fare.

Bus services have now returned to normalcy. The toll tax will remain the same till the next meeting on March 12, sources said.
