Andaman remembers First war of Independence heroes

Port Blair, Mar 10 (UNI) People of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today remembered the heroes of the First war of Independence and arrival of 200 prisoners in Andaman Island on this day in 1858.

Andaman Lt Governor Lt General(Retd) Bhopinder Singh today urged the islanders to pay tribute to the freedom fighters by laying wreath at the Martyr's Memorial at Marina Park in Port Blair this morning.

The laying of wreath by the Lt Governor was followed by paying floral tribute by the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and other dignitaries at the function which was open for all.

A cultural programme would be organised here in the evening.

Patriotic songs and two historical plays on 'Kala Pani' by the trainees of Dr B R Ambedkar Polytechnic and 'Battle of Aberdeen' by the artistes of Atul Smrity Samiti would be presented on this occasion.

PNB's JV partner launches 20th branch in Nepal

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) Nepal's Everest Bank Ltd (EBL), in which public sector Punjab National Bank (PNB) has an equity stake, today opened its 20th branch in Kathmandu. Mr S C Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, PNB, inaugurated the branch, which makes EBL the largest network among the private sector commercial banks in Nepal. Decision on EPF interest rate put off fourth time

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) A decision on the crucial issue of hike in the rate of interest on the EPF was put off for the fourth time today after Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes told the Employees Provident Fund Orgnisation (EPFO) that he is pursuing the matter with Finance Minister P Chidambaram. Eighteenth IGNOU convocation on March 17

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will hold its 18th convocation here on March 17. Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishna will preside over as Chief Guest and deliver the Convocation address. The Convocation will be simultaneously held at 28 regional centres of the university. More than 1.11 lakh students are eligible for receiving their degrees, diplomas and certificates during the ceremony. AS many as 11,900 students will attend the convocation at the headquarters.....
