Altogether 21 candidates file nominations for Palamu by-poll

Daltonganj, Mar 10 (UNI) Altogether 14 candidates filed their nomination papers on the last day today taking the tally to 21 for the March 29 by-election to Palamu Parliamentary seat.

Ten Independent candidates filed their nominations today, Deputy Commissioner and Electoral Officer Nagendra Prasad Singh said, adding scrutiny would be done on March 12 and last date of withdrawal was fixed on March 14.

Counting would be held on April 1.

The prominent candidates inlcuded Mr Jitendra Kumar (JD-U), Mr Jawahar Paswan (BJP), Mr Ghuran Ram (RJD) Mr Lalan Bhuiyan (Samata Party).

The by-election was necessitated after Mr Manoj Bhuiyan(RJD) lost his Lok Sabha seat following the cash-for-query scam.

All villages to be made clean by 2012

Patna, Mar 8 (UNI) The Bihar government has fixed a target to make all the villages clean and safe for people under complete cleanliness scheme by 2012. Replying to short noticed questions, state public health and engineering minister Prem Kumar said the district level committees were entrusted to clean up their respective areas and set up community lavatories. He said already 14,680 lavatories were constructed by the end of January last against the target of constructing 49.32 toilets for families living.....

MCD poll notification issued, nominations from today

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) Nominations opened today for the April 5 polls to the 272-member Municipal Corporation of Delhi with Delhi State Election Commission issuing the notification signaling the start of the formal election process. State Election Commissioner S P Marwah said the last date for filing of nominations was March 17. Scrutiny would take place on March 19 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 22, he said. A total of 99 lakh voters are expected.....
