Akali supporter's bullet riddled body recovered from canal

Sangrur, Mar 10 (UNI) Police today fished out the bullet riddled body of a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) supporter from the Bhakra canal near Sehna village of the district.

According to the police, the deceased identified as Lakhwinder Singh Lakha was a supporter and close associate of SAD leader Malkiat Singh Kittu who had lost the assembly polls last month to the Congress candidate Kewal Singh Dhillon in the Barnala constituency. The victim was an employee of Market Committee, Mehal Kalan.

A report listing Lakha as missing was registered by the police yesterday on the statement of his family members. The police today recovered the body from the canal.

According to police officials the body had a bullet wound and several wounds inflicted by sharp edged weapons. Investigations are on in the case.

Kohima will be on rail map by 2012

Kohima, Feb 25 (UNI) The capital city will be connected by railway from Dimapur by 2012, Divisional Railway Manager of Lumding M S Sharma has said. Survey work has already begun for the 72-km stretch of railway line. Addressing a press conference at Dimapur yesterday, Mr Sharma confirmed that the project has already been sanctioned at Rs eight crore.
