29 aspirants for Rajnandgaon by-poll

Rajnandgaon, Mar 10 (UNI) As many as 29 candidates have filed their nomination papers to contest for the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat in the by-election scheduled for March 29.

State's ruling BJP has fielded Mr Leelaram Bhojwani, a former minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh, while opposition Congress has nominated Mr Devarat Singh to contest for the seat.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Repulican Party of India (K), the Gondwana Gana Parishad and the Chhattisgarh Vikas Party, have also fielded their candidates.

By-election in Rajnandgaon was necessitated following the expulsion of BJP MP Pradeep Gandhi from the Lok Sabha after he was caught in the 'cash-for-query' scandal.

Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is March 14 and polling is fixed for March 29.

Van overturns killing five fishermen in Bengal

Kolkata, Mar 10 (UNI) At least five people were killed on the spot and 36 others injured when a Kolkata bound van overturned at Namkhana in South 24 Parganas district this morning. Official sources here said the overloaded four-wheeler carrying fishermen from nearby areas to Kolkata met with an accident when the driver tryied to overtake another vehicle and subsequenly overturned on the highway killing five men on the spot. Port Blair, Mar 10 (UNI) People of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today remembered the heroes of the First war of Independence and arrival of 200 prisoners in Andaman Island on this day in 1858. Andaman Lt Governor Lt General(Retd) Bhopinder Singh today urged the islanders to pay tribute to the freedom fighters by laying wreath at the Martyr's Memorial at Marina Park in Port Blair this morning. Kolkata, Mar 10 (UNI) NSHM Knowledge Campus today signed an MoU with globally acclaimed De Bono School of Lateral Thinking and Cognitive Intelligence for setting up NSHM-De Bono Centre of Innovation and Thinking Management for fostering creativity among students and professionals using De Bono tools and techniques.
