21 thieves arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 10 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police arrested nine burglars at Nowgam bypass area here late last night, a senior police officer said.

Senior Superintendent of Police said complaints were received by police that a group of burglars was stealing valuables from shops in Nowgam bypass area.

He said a special team was formed which conducted surprise raids at different places during the past few days.

However, last night when the thieves was busy loading iron from a shop of one Ishtiyaq Ahmad, police caught them red-handed, he said.

These burglars are residents of Baramulla district, the SSP said.

Official sources said police have also arrested 12 burglars and recovered stolen goods worth lakhs of rupees at Pulwama in south Kashmir last night.

3 dacoits shot dead

Bhopal, Mar 2 (UNI) Notorious dacoit Pratap Gadaria, who carried a reward of Rs one lakh, was shot dead in an encounter with the police early this morning in the forest under Subhashpura police station area of Shivpuri district, while two other dacoits were killed in another encounter in Datia district, police said. Six arrested for illegal hotel raid in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 10 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police today arrested six people in connection with an illegal raid on a local hotel yestersday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SS) Syed Mujtaba said it took into captivity the six for ransacking the hotel and damaging the vehicle. He said immediately after the incident, police registered a case against those involved in the raid. About the complaints that the hotel was reportedly being used for flesh trade, the SSP said, the matter.....

Former Congress MLA convicted

Sagar(MP), Mar 2 (UNI) A local court has sentenced one year imprisonment to former Congress MLA Santosh Sahu and about two dozen people of both sides involved in a clash among the supporters of liquor contractors here 11 years ago. Additional Sessions Judge Satyendra Kumar Singh yesterday acquitted Santosh Sahu's son Satish, but convicted his brother Kamlesh Sahu. Two accused died during the trial period. Jairam Sahu and six others of the rival group were also sentenced to one year imprisonment.....
