US Air Force band to perorm in Kolkata

Kolkata, Mar 9 (UNI) An eight-member team of 'Pacific Trends', the famous US Air Force band, will regale Kolkatans with a special performance on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Indian Airforce.

Led by Major Daniel L. Price, the Band Commander, Pacific Trends will present its first performance in the city tomorrow followed by another at the American Center the next day.

It will also hold a master class at the Calcutta School of Music on March 11.

Performing songs from the 1960s to the present day, the team will present top-quality Rock and Roll, R and B, country music and original cappella arrangements.

The band gives 400 performances a year for over 150,000 people.

It has performed in Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Guam, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines, Laos, South Korea and Japan.

3-day Phalgun Utsav to showcase Bengali culture in Goa

Panaji, Feb 20 (UNI) As part of an initiative to showcase Bengali culture and its links with Goa, the Bengali Cultural Association here has decided to organise a three-day 'Phalgun Utsav' from February 22. The secretary of the association R P Paul told mediapersons that the House of Dempos, Goa Tourism Development Corporation, Eastern Zone Cultural Centre, Kolkata and Wisitex Foundation besides the state department of Art and Culture will collaborate for the event, claimed to be first of its kind.....

Rajasthan may acquire havelis if owners ignore conservation

Jaipur, Feb 20 (UNI) Haveli owners in Rajasthan may have to give up their properties if they fail to conserve them. The state government is planning an amendment soon in its Monument, Archaelogical sites and Antiquities Act of 1961 to protect the havelis of the state. Till now, there is no provision in the Act which can compel the haveli owners to look after their properties, which are steadily getting dilapidated. The havelis, especially in the Shekhawati region, are known.....

Chennai festival encompassing art, music, literature opened

Chennai, Feb 20 (UNI) 'Chennai Sangamam Thiruvizha', a week long festival depicting the cultural ethos of Chennai and celebrating the 2,000-year old tradition of arts and literature, was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi here this evening. Tourism Minister Suresh Rajan was also present on the occasion. Minister for Local Administration M K Stalin inaugurated the 'Neidal Sangamam', an exhibition of traditional arts and crafts, to mark the occasion, near Marina Beach.
