SEC notifies election schedule for Nagar Panchayats

Shimla, Mar 9 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh's State Election Commissioner Rajendra Bhattacharya today notified the election schedule for by-polls to the Nagar Panchayats of Rewalsar in Mandi district, Bhota in Hamirpur district, Ward No three of Nagar Panchayat and Dehra in Kangra district.

The nomination papers would be filed on March 19, 20 and 21 between 1000 hrs to 1500 hrs before the officer appointed by the Returning Officer (Deputy Commissioner), she said in a release here.

The papers would be scrutinised on March 21 and the candidatures would be allowed to withdraw their forms on March 23 between 1000 to 1500 hrs, Ms Bhattacharya said.

The list of the contesting candidates along with their symbols allotted to them would be issued on March 23 immediately after the time of withdrawal was over, she said The list of polling stations would be made public on or before March 12, she added.

The polling, if necessary, would be held on April eight between 0700 hrs and 1500 hrs. Counting of votes would be held on the same day, immediately after the polling, she said.

The results would be declared immediately after the counting was over and the entire election process shall be completed by April 10, the SEC added.

US diplomat predicts hung assembly in UP

Varanasi, Mar 9 (UNI) Foreseeing a hung assembly after the coming Uttar Pradesh assembly poll, a leading US diplomat today said the possibility of President's Rule being imposed in the politically crucial state could not be ruled out. DCI hears public view on delimitation

Hyderabad, Mar 9 (UNI) Chairman and members of the Delimitation Commission of India (DCI) today heard the grievances of the public in respect of delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. Commission Chairman Kuldeep Singh said the draft released earlier by the commission was not final. After hearing the views of public and the political parties, the commission would consider their suggestions and try to incorporate them in the final draft, he said at the sitting here......
