Poor health coverage retards health coverage: Apang

Itanagar, Mar 9(UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang has urged the Centre to help the state government so that the health programmes reach remote areas.

''We should not compromise with health of the common people and stress should be given on proper central allocation so that health programmes reach remote border areas,'' Apang commented after a meeting with Union Health and Family Welfare Additional Secretary S Jaleja.

official sources here today said the chief minister said the state health department has made concerted efforts and the people were taking it positively in spite of a few reservations. While appreciating "successful implementation" of ASHA, health worker scheme under NRHM, in the state, Ms Jaleja, who is also National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) Director, called for proper implementation of the immunisation programme, which presently stands at twenty per cent.

She further informed that the Centre has provided Rs 8.6 crore for mobile units in all the district and was ready to provide Rs one crore each for the district hospitals.

Isolated rain in parts of AP

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (UNI) Isolated rain occurred over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the last 24 hours even as dry weather prevailed over Rayalaseema. The chief amounts of rainfall recorded were Parvathipuram 2 cm, Adilabad and Komarada one each, the Weather Office said here. Maximum temperatures were above normal at a few places over Rayalaseema and normal over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The maximum temperature of 40 degree C was recorded at Kadapa and lowest minimum temperature of 16.....

5-day Indo-US workshop on avian influenza concludes

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) A five-day Indo-US workshop on Avian Influenza Preparedness and Response concluded here today. The workshop was organised by the Central government in collaboration with the U S National Institute of Communicable Disease, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US Department of Agriculture, WHO and UNICEF, an American Embassy release said. About 33 million Indians suffering from CKD: Expert

Bangalore, Mar 9 (UNI) An estimated 33 million people in India suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and the number is likely to go up to 70 million by 2025, noted nephrologist Urmila Anantdh has said. ''Cases of diabetes are dangerously increasing among the Indian population. It is estimated that 33 million people are affected in India and the number is likely to go up to 70 million by 2025,'' she told UNI here yesterday after inaugurating a CKD Prevention Clinic.....
