Mizoram govt urges civil society to participate in governance

Aizawl, Mar 9 (UNI) The Mizoram government is actively contemplating to involve civil societies in the policy making process for good governance and decentralise the administration.

Speaking at a Federation of Mizoram Government Employees and Workers Meet here, Chief Secretary Haukhum Hauzel here yesterday emphasised the need for good governance.

Mr Hauzel said, ''We have started the process of involving the civil society by urging them to participate in the framing of government policies, programmes and decentralising power. If required, we will make changes in the rules as well.'' He, however, said, ''Most of the people do not maintain professionalism after they get a "permanent" job but people have to be efficient in work.'' Speaking on the need of working sincerely, the chief secretary urged the government employees to practise punctuality by attending office on time and finish work on time.

Manipur records 80 per cent polling in final phase

Imphal, Feb 23 (UNI) An estimated 80 per cent polling was recorded in today's third and final phase election to 12 Assembly seats of Churachandpur, Tamenglong and Chandel districts and Jiribam sub-division of Imphal East district. Election office sources here said Tamenglong and Chandel districts accounted for 85 per cent, while Churachandpur district recorded 80 per cent polling. MCD polls on April 5

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Delhi State Election Commission today announced that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls will be held on April 5. A total of 99 lakh voters in 12 municipal zones of Delhi are eligible to cast their votes in 1050 polling stations for election to 272 wards in the MCD House, out of which 46 are reserved for Scheduled Castes.
