Make a statement on Rs 35,000 cr banks' scam: BJP asks FM

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra (BJP) today sought a statement by Finance Minister P Chidambaram on news reports over a Rs 35,000 crore scam involving, among others, ten foreign banks, politicians and terrorists.

Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha during zero hour, Prof Malhotra said according to the reports bureaucrats and builders were also involved.

''Our apprehension is that there would be a cover-up exercise,'' he said.

GUJARAT DALITS: Mr Madhusudan Mistry (Cong) said Gujarat police and administration had mercilessly beaten up the Dalits who had taken part in a rally in Gandhinagar.

RS members express oncern over rising prices

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) Expressing serious concern over the failure of the government to check runaway inflation and steep rise in prices of essential commodities, Rajya Sabha members today urged for streamlining the current Public Distribution System (PDS). CPI member from Andhra Pradesh Syed Azeez Pasha said forward trading must be stopped and a detailed plan of action to check inflation and price rise must be placed before the House. Relief to farmers for failure, destruction of crops

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) The rate of interest on crop loans up to a principal amount of Rs three lakh has been reduced to seven per cent per annum from kharif 2006-07, Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar said today.
