Listed militant killed in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 9 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police killed a listed militant in an encounter in south Kashmir last night, a senior police officer said today.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Anantnag said a tip off was received that some militants were hiding at village Dachan Yaripora, Kulgam, in south Kashmir last evening.

He said a police party was immediately rushed there and the area was sealed from all sides. However, as the police personnel were about to storm a particular house, they came under heavy fire from militants. The fire was returned and in the fierce clash, which continued for several hours, a militant was killed.

According to the SSP, the militant identified as Sayar Ahmad was involved in a number of militancy related incidents in the area and was carrying a reward.

He said one AK 47 rifle with UBGL and some magazines were recovered from the site of encounter.

Life paralysed in Sogam in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 9 (UNI) Life was today crippled in Sogam area of Lolab valley in north Kashmir due to complete shutdown in protest against alleged atrocities being committed by the Special Operation Group (SOG) of state police. Hundreds of people today took to streets at Sogam, about 90 km from here in north, raising anti-SOG slogans. Rains likely in Rajasthan

Jaipur, March 9 (UNI) Rajasthan today experienced pleasant weather due to partly cloudy sky and cold winds. The Met department has predicted rainfall in the north-western parts of the state accompanied with thunder and lightening. The sky is likely to remain partly cloudy in many parts of the state. Raje announces new district in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Mar 9 (UNI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today announced the creation of a new district lof Pratapgarh in the state, with the total number of districts going up to 33. The Chief Minister made this announcement during her Budget speech here. She said considering the long standing demand of the tribals in southern Rajasthan, the government was conceding to the demand for the new district of Pratapgarh. Pratapgarh tehsil is presently part of Chittorgarh district. UNI.....
