LDF govt politicising universities: FUEO leaders

Kottayam, Mar 9 (UNI) Leaders of Federation of all Kerala University Employees' Organisations (FUEO) and Mahatma Gandhi University Employees' Union (MGUEU) today alleged that the Left Democratic Front government in Kerala was politicising the universities by creating majority in the syndicates.

At a news conference here, the leaders contended that the government had destroyed the autonomy and academic freedom of the universities through the ordinance for the formation of a Higher Education Council.

The 15th annual conference of the FUEO and 18th annual conference of the MGUEU to be held jointly here on March 12 and 13 would discuss the issues confronting the higher education sector and finalise the future course of action.

KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala would inaugurate the public meeting on March 12.

Cabinet nod for MoU with PHFI

AP Cabinet approves land for auto major

Hyderabad, Mar 9 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet today approved allocation of 500 acres of land to MLR Motors that has tied-up with General Motors associated company in China Wooling and Auto major Fiat, for setting up a four-wheeler manufacturing facility in the state. The project, which would come up in the Auto Park recognised as Special Economic Zone would provide direct employment to 3,000 workers and indirect employment to more than 5,000 people, official sources here said. Fall in private investment in agriculture

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) The government, quoting the Economic Survey 2005-06, today informed Rajya Sabha that the private investment in agriculture (at 1999-2000 prices) has gone down from Rs 38,215 crore in 2001-02 to Rs 30,532 crore (quick estimates) in 2004-05.
