India-South Africa sailing regatta in Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) The India-South Africa friendly sailing regatta 2007 will be conducted in India for the first time on March 11-12.

The event originally started as Indo-Brazilian-South African regatta (IBSA). The first ever tri-nation sailing regatta for these navies was hosted by South African Navy in the waters of Simons Town in September 2005. This sporting event is being conducted by the Indian Navy as part of measures to enhance bilateral co-operation between the two friendly nations, a release issued here today said.

The regatta is being conducted at India Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), Mumbai where a total of three races will be conducted each day on March 11 and 12 in the laser, enterprise and 24 dass of boats.

During the current championship, two teams from India (team A and B ) and one team from South Africa will test the waters and winds of Mumbai Harbour. Each team will comprise ten members and there will be a total of 30 participants.

The South African naval team is arriving in Mumabi today to mark the commencement of the regatta. There will be a `mixing of water' ceremony on March 10.

The South African team will depart from Mumbai on March 14, the release added.

Union Defence Minister visits Vizag

Visakhapatnam, Mar 10 (UNI) Defence Minister A K Antony today visited Eastern Naval Command (ENC) here. According to ENC Spokesman, Mr Antony was received by Admiral Suresh Mehta, Chief of Naval Staff and ENC Chief Vice-Admiral Arunkumar Singh. One killed, 13 injured in road accident in AP

Khammam, Mar 2 (UNI) One person was killed and 13 injured, three of them seriously, when a private bus, in which they were travelling, collided head-on with a lorry near Konijerla village in this district today. Police said the bus, on its way from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad, collided with a lorry proceeding from Khammam to Vijayawada, killing one person on the spot.
