HC allows filling of vacancies by Mah govt

Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today vacated the earlier stay and allowed the Maharashtra government to fill up more than one lakh vacancies in various government departments.

The order will also allow many semi-government bodies to fill up more than 1,40,000 vacancies in their establishments.

While allowing the state and semi-government bodies to fill up the vacancies, a division banch, comprising Justice A P Deshpande and Justice V M Kanade, observed that the arrangement would be subject to final verdict in the matter.

The order came in response to a civil application filed by the state government, praying for vacating a stay granted in December last year.

The state, in its application, had complained that the stay order had crippled the state administration as more than one lakh posts in the state departments and over one lakh posts in the semi-govenment bodies had remained vacant.

The High Court had stayed the state government order, which allowed reservations in promotions of all posts in state government as well as semi-government establishments in the state.

Some officers from state cadre moved the High Court against the order, saying that the order was in contravention of the constitutional provisions for reservation in promotions.
