Govt to seek inputs from MLAs over hailstorm losses

Ranchi, Mar 9 (UNI) The Jharkhand government today said compensation would be given to every hailstorm affected farmer after a brief inquiry by the concerned district commissioners and inputs from legislators.

Replying to a question of Upendranath Das(BJP), deputy chief minister and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Stephen Marandi said reports of the hailstorm was sought by all the districts and Rs 1,26,14,572 were being allotted to Ranchi, Jamtara, Deoghar and Gumla for giving compensation to the agriculturists.

Dissatisfied with the government's reply, leader of Oppositon Arjun Munda said the reports prepared by the district administration was incomplete.

Mr Munda demanded formation of a committee comprising MLAs which would evaluate the damage caused by the hailstorm.

Udaishankar Singh(RJD) said the damage was not properly evaluated.

Speaker Alamgir Alam said an Assembly committee would be formed if the state government failed to compensate the affected farmers in 30 days.

Meanwhile, the deputy chief minister also presented the third supplementry budget for 2006-07.
