Four nominations filed for Palamu bypoll

Daltonganj, Mar 9 (UNI) Four nominations were filed today for the Palamu Parliamentary bypoll slated for March 29, taking the number of candidates to seven so far.

Deputy Commissioner cum Electoral officer Nagendra Prasad Singh said Sudha Choudhary from Samajwadi party, Kameshwar Baitha and his wife Devmani Devi from Bahujan Samaj party and Ravindra Bhuyian from CPI(ML) have filed their nominations.

Nominations by Prabhat Kumar Bhuyian from Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) and Umesh Paswan from the Lokjanshakti Party were filed yesterday.

The last date for filing nomination is tomorrow. Scrutiny will take place on March 12 and the last date of withdrawal is March 14.

The result would be declared on April one.

The by-election was necessitated after Mr Manoj Bhuiyan(RJD) lost his Lok Sabha seat following the cash-for-query scam.

Kohima, Mar 9 (UNI) A record voter turnout of over 91 per cent was recorded in the bypolls to Dimapur-I and Tuensang Sadar II assembly constituencies in Nagaland yesterday, state election office said today. Barring some stray incidents in some polling stations at Dimapur-I and destruction of an Electronic Voting Machine at Tuensang Sadar II, the polling passed off peacefully. An overall 84.91 per cent of the 17,155 electorate cast their ballots at 38 polling booths in Dimapur-I, where five.....
