Father throws three minor children into well, kills self

Sasaram, Mar 9 (UNI) After throwing his three children into a community well, poverty stricken Luki Chero, a tribal of Rohtas district in Bihar, jumped into the same to drown himself yesterday to escape from the perennial problem, police said today.

Luki Chero, a resident of Lutur village under Baddi police station, first sent his wife to her parents' house to ensure that no one could prevent his plan of infanticides. Then he threw his three children -- son Pappu (6), daughters Priyanka (10) and Rinki into the community well, used for drinking water. Later he also jumped into the same and drowned, police said.

Luki took the extreme step due to abject poverty the eldest son of Luki, who is an eye-witness to the crime, hid himself behind a wall and later fled in panic.

A search was on for the boy.

Bodies of the three children have been fished out while the body of Luki was yet to be found.

Undeterred by train blast, 93 cross sides at Kaman Aman Setu on LOC

Srinagar, Mar 1 (UNI) Undeterred by recent bomb blasts in the Samjhauta Express that killed 68 people, 93 passengers crossed sides at the 'Kaman Aman Setu (Peace Bridge)'' on the Line of Control (LoC) on board the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus today. Labour ministry sets up centre for handicapped persons in J-K

Srinagar, Mar 1 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment has set up a new Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (VRC) for physically challenged people in the Kashmir Valley. The Centre, one of the 20 such centers established in different parts of the country by the ministry, will start functioning in the campus of the Kashmir Government Polytechnic, Gogji Bagh.
