Election of the Uttarakhand Speaker on March 12

Dehradun, Mar 9 (UNI) The election for the Speaker of Uttarakhand Assembly will be held on March 12, Assembly Secretary Mahesh Chandra said.

Earlier, former Speaker and BJP MLA from Pithoragarh Prakash Pant was elected as the interim Speaker.

Mr Pant took oath as a minister along with Chief Minister B C Khanduri yesterday.

Hyderabad, Mar 9 (UNI) The opposition Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI(M) staged a walkout in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly in protest against non-functioning of medical equipment and non-filling of vacancies in Government hospitals in the state. UFBU proposes indefinite strike from May 3

Hyderabad, Mar 9 (UNI) The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) today announced that it would go on a three-day countrywide strike from March 28, and an indefinite strike from May 3 if the Centre and the Indian Banks Associaton (IBA) failed to concede employees' demands. Addressing a press conference here, UFBU State unit Convenor and All India Andhra Bank Officers Federation General Secretary K Ramakoteswara Rao said the UFBU, comprising of nine unions operating in the banking Industry covering.....

Hyderabad, Mar 9 (UNI) Eleven more Telugu Desam Party members were suspended today for stalling the proceedings of the House over newspaper reports that Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's relative had purchased land allegedly by force from the 'poor'. Budget provides Rs 70 cr for IT sector

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 9 (UNI) The Kerala budget for 2007-08 gives a major thrust to Information Technology-based industries by making a provision of Rs 70 crore for various it projects. Presenting the budget in the State Assembly today, Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac said a sum of Rs 43.74 crore had been earmaked for various projects to be implemented by the IT Mission in association with local bodies.
