BSP likely to announce UP poll candidates tomorrow

Lucknow, Mar 9 (UNI) BSP is likely to announce its first list of candidates tomorrow as party supremo Mayawati is busy finalising it.

Ms Mayawati had reached the state capital yesterday and was supposed to release the list today, but due to some 'hitches' it was delayed for a day.

According to sources, the BSP leader is busy meeting the coordinators of different sectors to review names of some of the candidates finalised earlier by the party.

BSP had finalised names of about 200 candidates for the assembly poll, but all these names are again being scrutinised.

''The names of candidates are being reviewed following the success of the party's Satta Prapt Karo rally held here on March 1,'' the sources said adding candidates, who had done little for the rally, might be axed.

BSP this time is trying to change its image from a dalit party to a broad-based party with expected candidature to Brahmin and other upper caste people.

Sources said about 30 per cent of the seats are expected to be given to the upper caste by BSP, but still the major chunk would be with Dalits and Most Backwards Communities (MBCs).
