Bengal Assembly adjourned after obituary references

Kolkata, Mar 9(UNI) The West Bengal Assembly was adjourned for the day today after making obituary references to eminent persons who died during the inter session period.

Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim made obituary references to altogether 12 persons, including CITU General Secretary and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Chittabrata Mazumder, former Minister Krishnapada Haldar, painter Bikash Bhattacharyay and lyricist OP Nayyar before adjouring the House.

Maoist posters, leaflets, flags found in Purulia

Purulia, Mar 9 (UNI) A large number of posters, leaflets and flags of Maoist were found at Keroa village of Bolarampur in Purulia district early today. The extremists, through the leaflets and others, appealed to the villagers of Keroa and Chakbera "not to participate in the forthcoming panchayat elections." Estimated 40 per cent polling in Manipur till 1200 hrs

Imphal, Feb 23 (UNI) An estimated 40 per cent of the over 3,50,000 voters exercised their franchise till 1200 hrs today in the third and final phase of elections to 12 Manipur Assembly constituencies. Polling is being held in three districts of Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Chandel and Jiribam sub-divisions. Final phase of polling in Manipur begins

Imphal, Feb 23 (UNI) Polling for the third and final phase of elections to 12 Assembly constituencies in Manipur began at 0700 hrs today amid massive security arrangements. Polling is being held in three districts of Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Chandel and Jiribam sub-divisions.
