8 nominations filed for Rajnandgaon by-poll

Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, Mar 9 (UNI) Eight candidates have filed their nominations so far for the Lok Sabha by-election in Rajnandgaon constituency of Chhattisgarh where polling is slated on March 29, official sources said.

The ruling BJP and the main opposition Congress had announced the names of their candidates yesterday. However, they did not file nomination today and were expected to do so tomorrow.

The last date for filing nomination is March 10.

The by-poll was necessitated as sitting BJP MP Pradeep Gandhi was disqualified by Parliament after being caught in cash-for-query scam exposed in a sting operation.

13 candidates file papers for eight council seats

Jammu, Feb 21 (UNI) As many as 13 candidates, including Mohammad Sharief Niaz who vacated his Bhaderwah Assembly seat for his brother Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad last year, filed their nomination papers for eight seats Legilative Council election in Jammu and Kashmir today. According to Secretary Legislative Assembly and Returning Officer Mohammad Iqbal Ganai, 13 nomination papers for vacant legislative council seats were filed today. Farmer electrocuted

Badwani, MP, Mar 9 (UNI) A farmer was electrocuted to death at Temla village in this district, police said today. Bhole Singh (23) received electric shock while irrigating his farm. He died on the spot. In a separate incident, a tribal woman, who was frustrated with her disease, committed suicide by consuming poison at Dhawadi village. UNI.....

Nearly 23 per cent polling in Uttarakhand till 1300 hrs

Dehradun, Feb 21 (UNI) An estimated 23 per cent of nearly 60,00,000 voters in Uttarakhand exercised their franchise till 1300 hrs today in the elections to 69 Assembly seats and the bypoll to Tehri Lok Sabha seat. Polling was going on peacefully amid tight security arrangements, Assistant Chief Election Officer Jangvijay Singh said. People started queuing up at polling booths since early morning. Governor Sudarshan Agarwal cast his vote as soon as the polling began at 0800 hrs. Voting.....
