5-day Indo-US workshop on avian influenza concludes

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) A five-day Indo-US workshop on Avian Influenza Preparedness and Response concluded here today.

The workshop was organised by the Central government in collaboration with the U S National Institute of Communicable Disease, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US Department of Agriculture, WHO and UNICEF, an American Embassy release said.

The workshop is part of an ongoing bilateral collaboration funded by a grant agreement signed by US Embassy Charfe d' Affaires Geoffery R Pyatt and WHO Representative to India Dr Salim J Habayeb on October 13 last year.

The grant agreement supports a series of workshops on avian influenza in India and for enghancing regional capacity to detect and respond to the disease.

Participants learned to replicate this training and to conmbine their efforts into national and regional responses, the release added.

One killed as train hits car in AP

Tirupati, Mar 12(UNI) A 30-year-old man was killed and a woman received minor injuries when the car in which they were travelling was hit by the Katpadu-Tirupati passenger train at an unmanned level crossing of Kotala in Chandragiri mandal about 50 km from here today. Police said, the mishap occurred when the car proceeding to Iethepalli from Rangapet was crossing the unmanned level gate. The victim identified as Hariprasad was killed on the spot. Poison Control Training and Research Centre inaugurated

Chennai, Mar 10 (UNI) Union Minister for Environment and Forests A Raja today inaugurated the 'Poison Control Training and Research Centre' here at the government general hospital. The state-of-art Centre would have all the components defined by World Health Organisation (WHO), including information and training, treatment and an hightech analytical lab. The Centre to be set up at the Government General Hospital would also be the referral centre for poisoning cases not only from the state, but also for southern India......

Pulse polio drive begins in Bihar

Patna, Mar 11 (UNI) Five days pulse polio drive, the third in this year, began her today with 85941 vaccinators reaching out to more than two crore children to administer them the dose of pulse polio drops across the state. Official sources said that polio eradication programme was launched with new vigour as 61 cases of polio were detected in 25 districts of Bihar in 2006.
