Truck mows down school girl at Matharangi cross

Barrackpore, Mar 8: A class XI student was today mowed down by a speeding truck at Matharangi crossing near Nilgunge in North 24 Parganas today.

Police said Beauty Roy of Beraberia village was standing beside the road with her bicycle when the truck carrying gas cylinders suddenly lost brake and hit her. She died on the spot.

The locals raised a blockade on the road for an hour in protest against the incident.

However, the driver of the truck managed to flee. The body has been sent for postmortem , sources added.
