Truck mows down school girl

Barrackpore, Mar 8 (UNI) A class XI student was today mowed down by a speeding truck at Matharangi crossing near Nilgunge in North 24 Parganas today.

Police said Beauty Roy of Beraberia village was standing beside the road with her bicycle when the truck carrying gas cylinders suddenly lost brake and hit her. She died on the spot.

The locals raised a blockade on the road for an hour in protest against the incident.

However, the driver of the truck managed to flee. The body has been sent for postmortem , sources added.

Govt assures action if irregularities in appointment in university

Patna, Mar 8 (UNI) Bihar's agriculture minister Narendra Singh today said strong action would be taken if any irregularity was found in the appointments of the Rajendra Agricultural University. An inquiry was already underway into the appointments of the university. Replying in the state Assembly Mr Singh said that a committee had been constituted to probe into the appointments made earlier. Daltonganj, Mar 9 (UNI) Four nominations were filed today for the Palamu Parliamentary bypoll slated for March 29, taking the number of candidates to seven so far.
