Three dreaded criminals escape from jail

Koderma, Mar 8: Three dreaded prisoners have escaped from the district jail here on Ranchi-Patna road (NH 31), about 1 km from Jharkhand's Koderma district last night , police said today.

Arvind Raut, against whom more than 40 cases of kidnap and murder were lodged in Bihar and Jharkhand, along with two of his accomplices, had cut the rods of their cell and fled.

Eight days back, Arvind was shifted to the district jail here from Hazaribagh central jail on remand.

The authorities realised this morning only that they have escaped and immediately all escape routes were sealed.

All neighbouring districts have been alerted following the jail break.

Meanwhile, both the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police have expressed concern over the incident and held the jail authorities concerned responsible for the lapse.

Nearly a year-and-half ago, Arvind was arrested by a CID team in Kolkata and he was handed over to Hazaribagh police.
