Three criminals escape from jail

Koderma, Mar 8 (UNI) Three prisoners escaped from the district jail here on the Ranchi-Patna road (NH 31), in Jharkhand's Koderma district last night, police said today.

Arvind Raut, who has more than 40 cases of kidnap and murder against him was lodged in Bihar and Jharkhand jails, along with two of his accomplices. They escaped by cutting the rods of their cells.

Around eight days back, Arvind was shifted to the district jail here from Hazaribagh central jail on remand.

The authorities realised this morning that the accused had escaped and immediately sealed all escape routes.

All neighbouring districts have been alerted following the jail break.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police have expressed their concern over the incident and have held jail authorities concerned responsible for the jail break.

Nearly a year-and-half ago, Arvind was arrested by a CID team in Kolkata and he was handed over to the Hazaribagh police.

Sarpanch booked for evicting Dalit families

Jalandhar, Mar 8 (UNI) Punjab police has registered a case against a sarpanch and some of his associates on charges of forcibly evicting Dalit families from their houses in Mewasinghwala village of this district. Counsellor shifted to New Delhi for treatment

Jabalpur, Mar 8 (UNI) A counsellor, who was set ablaze by a patient at the local Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Medical College Hospital over a trivial issue on March 6, has been sent to New Delhi for treatment via air ambulance.
