Six people arrested for alleged kidnapping

Krishnagar, Mar 8 (UNI) Six miscreants were arrested when they tried to abduct two girls from Noapara under Dhantala police station in Nadia district today.

Police said a gang of six boys came in a van and tried to kidnap Dipti Biswas(15) and Tapati Biswas(12).

The Villagers caught the boys when the girls raised an alarm.

Later they were handed over to the police.

Police said a case had been registered against them.

The situation in the village was very tensee following the incident.

Man held for killing son-in-law for dowry

Vadodara, Mar 8 (UNI) A tribesman killed his son-in-law after the latter allegedly failed to make full payment of Rs 45,000 as dowry, a custom still prevalent in some tribal communities in Gujarat. Three years ago, 35-year-old Galia Nayak of Rangpur village under Chhotaudepur taluka had married accused Moji Rathwa's daughter with a promise to pay him Rs 45,000 in cash as dowry. According to Rangpur police sources, Galia, who was working as a labour, was brutally killed on Monday.....

Sarpanch booked for evicting Dalit families

Jalandhar, Mar 8 (UNI) Punjab police has registered a case against a sarpanch and some of his associates on charges of forcibly evicting Dalit families from their houses in Mewasinghwala village of this district. The Dalits, in a complaint to the Sultanpur Lodhi police, have alleged that village sarpanch Kuldeep Singh along with his six associates forced them to leave their houses and also demolished their animal shelters. Counsellor shifted to New Delhi for treatment

Jabalpur, Mar 8 (UNI) A counsellor, who was set ablaze by a patient at the local Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Medical College Hospital over a trivial issue on March 6, has been sent to New Delhi for treatment via air ambulance. ''On the instructions of the state government, counsellor Sanjay Shrivastav was sent to New Delhi in air ambulance called from there,'' Collector Sanjay Dube said.
