Sarpanch booked for evicting Dalit families

Jalandhar, Mar 8 (UNI) Punjab police has registered a case against a sarpanch and some of his associates on charges of forcibly evicting Dalit families from their houses in Mewasinghwala village of this district.

The Dalits, in a complaint to the Sultanpur Lodhi police, have alleged that village sarpanch Kuldeep Singh along with his six associates forced them to leave their houses and also demolished their animal shelters.

On the complaint of the Dalits, police yesterday registered a case under sections 148, 149, 379, 427 and 447 of the IPC and Section 3 of the SC/ST Act against the sarpanch and his associates.

Sultanpur Lodhi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP Pushkar Sandal today said one of the associates of the sarpanch identified as Sadhu Singh had been arrested.

Man charged for impersonating Nawab of Hyderabad

Ayodhya, Mar 8 (UNI) A man has been charged with forgery for managing entry at the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi complex by posing as an ancestor of the Nawab of Hyderabad. On January 13 this year, Mohd Shahid Khan -- posing himself as a trustee of Tirupati Balaji Temple and Nawab of Hyderabad's ancestor -- had managed entry at the site through the VIP pathway and offered 1,100 'laddus' to the makeshift 'Ramlala' temple. Mini bus plunges into ditch, 25 injured

Puducherry, Feb 24 (UNI) Twentyfive persons were injured when the bus in which they were travelling fell into a ditch at Uruvayar, near here today. Police said the driver lost control over the vehicle while trying to avoid hitting an elderly man crossing the road at Uruvayar Thirukkanji. The driver and 24 women workers of a private industrial unit at Katterikuppam, were injured in the mishap. While 16 of the injured were admitted to the Thavalakuppam primary health centre, the rest.....

Four miscreants arrested

Hazaribagh, Mar 8 (UNI) At least four miscreants wanted in different cases in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district were arrested. Deputy superintendent of police Manilal Mandal said yesterday acting on a tip off, one Dashrath Mahto was nabbed from Chorka village under Barkagaon police station area in the district. Mr Mandal said acting on the information obtained from Dashrath, three others, identified as Jitendra Kumar Verma, Sunny Kumar Gupta and Manish Gope were arrested from the Sadar police station area in the district......
