Sanjay Karol takes oath as HP High Court Judge

Shimla, Mar 8 (UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh advocate general Sanjay Kaorl was today sworn in as the Judge of the state High Court in a simple ceremony here.

Chief Justice V K Gupta administered the oath of office to Mr Karol, who was advocate general in the previous Dhumal Government.

With his appointment, the strength of the judges in the High Court has gone up to seven with two vacancies.

Justices Deepak Gupta, Surjeet Singh, Dev Darshan Goel, A K Ahuja and Surender Singh Thakur are the other judges of the High Court.

Lokayukta Bhawani Singh, Consumer Forum Chairman A K Goel, Backward Classes Chairman K C Sood, retired judges D P Sood and R K Mahajan, besides state Chief Secretary S S Parmar and several other senior state government officials were also present on the occasion.

Rains extends cold in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Mar 1 (UNI) Continuing rains and partly cloudy skies in Rajasthan have brought a turnaround in the weather with temperatures tumbling down two to three degrees Celsius. Jodhpur recorded maximum rainfall measuring 23.7 mm till 0830 hrs in the morning today. It is raining across the state from north to south and east to west. Chennai, Mar 8 (UNI) The State Q Branch Police today arrested three persons, including a ruling DMK functionary, for alleged involvement in a hawala transaction reportedly done by a Sri Lankan refugee at Tiruchirapalli for procuring weapon materials and smuggling them through sea to Sri Lanka. Eight killed in landmine blast in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, Mar 1 (UNI) Eight people, including four jawans of the Naga battalion, were killed on the spot when a truck in which they were travelling hit a landmine laid by the Naxalites near Darbaguda on Jagdalpur-Hyderabad road in the tribal Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.
