Prop tax payers can pay either by Unit Area system or old system

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Facing allegations that many people were being forced to pay property tax levied according to the old system rather than the Unit Area method introduced a few years ago, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi today clarified that property tax payers are free to pay their pending amount through either of the two systems.

This was stated by the MCD Property Tax Commissioner in a statement at a meeting of the MCD Standing Committee here today.

In response to the concern raised over the issue by Standing Committee member Vijender Gupta, the commissioner clarified that Delhiites could pay their property tax either through the old system or the Unit Area method.

In this context, he refuted allegations by the Opposition BJP that many people were being forced to make payment of their tax through the old system.

Mr Gupta had last week alleged that the MCD has been forcing certain category of property tax payers to make payment through the old system, which amounted to a return of the Inspector Raj, an allegation that the MCD later denied.
