Prime Minister presents excellence award to POWERGRID, CMD

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today presented the excellence award to Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID) Chairman and Managing Director R P Singh for his contribution towards growth of the company as well as the country's power sector.

In a conference of Chief Executives of Public Sector Enterprises held here, the Prime Minister awarded the 'Scope Award' for Excellence and Outstanding Contribution to the Public Sector Management -- Individual category for the year 2005-06.

In addition, Dr Singh also received the ''MOU Excellence Award'' conferred on POWERGRID for being amongst the Top Ten public sector enterprises (PSEs) by the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

Mr Singh has been closely associated with the power sector for 35 years covering critical areas of generation, transmission, and large system operation and distribution.

He also served with organisations such as TISCO, NTPC. He has been the Chairman, POWERGRID since November, 1996.

Tata Steel acquires controlling stake in rolling mills in Vietnam

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Tata Steel Ltd will acquire controlling stake in two rolling mills with 4,30,000 tpa capacity in Haiphong, Vietnam, for 41 million dollars as part of its focus on regional consolidation, NatSteel Asia Pte Ltd (NSA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company has entered into an agreement to acquire 100 per cent equity in a 2,50,000 tpa bar/wire rod mill in SSE Steel Ltd and 70 per cent equity holding in Vinausteel Ltd, which produces 1,80,000 tpa.....

RPG Enterprises to invest Rs 2,700cr by 2011 on retail expansion

Gurgaon, Mar 8 (UNI) The Goenka's-owned RPG Enetrprises will infuse Rs 2,500-Rs 2,700 crore for setting up 4,000 retail outlets, including 1,000 Spencers stores, across the country by 2011. ''We will invest Rs 2,500- Rs 2,700 crore on our expansion plans within the next four-five years. We will also be investing Rs 1,000 crore on Spencers retail venture,'' RPG Enterprises Vice-Chairman Sanjiv Goenka told reporters here. Redraft Communal Violence Bill, Micro-Finance bill: Women activists

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Terming the proposed Communal Violence Bill and Micro-finance Bill ''gender biased and anti-women'', women groups, social activists and human rights organisations have demanded the legislations should be immediately withdrawn and re-drafted after wider deliberations. Both the Communal Violence (Prevention, control, and rehabilitation of victims) Bill, 2005 and the Micro Finance Sector Development and Regulation Bill, 2007 have already been cleared by the Union Cabinet and are likely to be tabled in the current session of Parliament......
