Opposition slams govt for increasing rly fares without facilities

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Opposition in the Lok Sabha today accused the government of increasing railway fare through the backdoor and just renaming nearly hundred ordinary trains as superfast to increase the fares.

Initiating the discussion on Railway Budget, 2007-08, BJP's Tomar Chand Gehlot said fares were increased without providing any extra facilities like increasing the speed and reducing the number of stoppages.

He said another area from where the Railways were minting money was the Tatkal reservation scheme under which passengers were charged Rs 150 extra per ticket.

Works on 4-laning of Pathankot-Srinagar highway to be awarded soon

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The government today informed the Rajya Sabha that widening of the existing 2-lane road to 4-lane from Pathankot to Srinagar on NH-1A had been approved under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase II as part of the North-South Corridor. In a written reply, Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways K H Muniyappa said the total length of highways under the NHDP Phase II in Jammu and Kashmir is about 437 km. Out.....

Prices are now taking a downward trend: Shukla

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Two days after Congress President Sonia Gandhi admitted that price rise was one of the main factors for the drubbing of the party in the recent assembly polls in Punjab and Uttarakhand, party member Rajiv Shukla today said the prices were now taking a downward trend at least of six essential items. Direct flight to T

Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) A direct flight between India and Trinidad and Tobaggo (T&T), the country which is home to celebrities like cricketer Brian Lara and Nobel laureate V S Naipaul, will commence in near future. The announcement was made by High Commissioner of Trinidad&Tobaggo Pundit Maniedeo Prasad on the sidelines of an interactive session held by CII here today. ''A UK-based Indian low-cost carrier company has already evinced interest in this connection and further talks are still on,'' he.....
