NTPC receives performance excellence award

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) NTPC Ltd has been ranked top awardee for excellence in performance by Department of Public Enterprises, for 2004-05 and 2005-06.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presented the MoU awards to NTPC Chairman and Managing Director T Sankaralingam at the conference of chief executives of CPSEs here today.

''The company has been achieving excellent rating under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the government evert year since inception of the MoU system and has sustained high level of operational and financial performance,'' an official statement said.

The other awardees in the category are Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Power Grid Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation, Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd and State Trading Corporation among others.

Temples to close for lunar eclipse

Hyderabad, Mar 3 (UNI) All temples in the state would be closed this evening due to lunar eclipse. The temples would open by 0900 hrs tomorrow. Maoists blast bridge, traffic struck

Hyderabad, Mar 3 (UNI) Maoists trigerred a blast on a bridge connecting Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring Chhattisgarh near Rontentha in Khammam district this morning. Police said vehicular traffic had come to a standstill following the blast. The Maoists had obstructed construction of the bridge, but the adminstration went ahead with the construction and completed it at the cost of Rs 30 lakh, considering the villagers demand. UNI.....

NTPC's Vindhyachal project becomes nation's largest station

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd's (NTPC) Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Project has become the largest station in the country with the synchronisation of its 500 mw unit under stage III. The installed capacity of Vindhyachal Station, located in Madhya Pradesh, has increased to 3,260 mw and that of the company to 26,904 mw. The approved investment for the third stage is Rs 4,201.5 crore while that of stage I and II was Rs 4,053.42 crore......
